Browsing and hosting

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Your browser sends technical information, such as your IP address and requested page, to the hosting infrastructure to retrieve the site. GitHub states that it logs and stores visitors' IP addresses for security purposes, including when visitors are not signed into GitHub.

The purpose is to deliver and secure this website. The site's legitimate interest is making its content available and protecting it against abuse. GitHub's own handling of hosting data, including retention and its legal bases, is described in the GitHub Privacy Statement and GitHub Pages documentation.

Cookies and local storage

The site's code does not set cookies or run advertising, profiling, or visitor analytics scripts. Fonts and other initial page assets are served from this website. YouTube players are optional and are not loaded until you explicitly choose to enable one, as explained below.

If you change the colour scheme, the site stores one preference in your browser's localStorage: the key theme, with the value light or dark. This functional preference is read by the site's JavaScript and is not sent to the site operator. It contains no visitor identifier and is used only to remember the appearance you selected.

The preference has no automatic expiry. You can delete it through your browser's site-data settings; the site then uses your device's colour-scheme preference. Blocking local storage does not prevent reading the site or changing the theme for the current page. There is no site-wide consent banner: no third-party player or non-essential tracking is loaded on arrival. Optional video players have their own opt-in controls.

Contact emails

There is no contact form. Clicking an email link opens your email application; the website does not send a message itself. If you email the address above, your email address, name if supplied, message, and any attachments are processed to respond to your enquiry and manage the resulting correspondence.

The legal basis is the legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. Where your request concerns entering into a contract, processing necessary to take steps at your request before that contract is the relevant basis. Providing information is voluntary, but an email address and enough detail to respond are needed to answer your enquiry.

The mailbox is provided by Google (Gmail); messages are handled by that service. See Google's Privacy Policy. Correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to address your request and any ongoing relationship, or to meet applicable legal obligations or handle legal claims. You can contact the address above to request deletion where applicable.

Google Search Console

Google Search Console reports how pages appear in Google Search; it is not Google Analytics. Using Search Console with DNS or HTML ownership verification does not install tracking scripts or cookies in visitors' browsers. This site does not include Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager.

Optional YouTube videos

An article may offer an embedded YouTube player. Before you choose Load YouTube video, the placeholder uses no YouTube player, remote thumbnail, or connection to Google. You can read the article without enabling the video, or follow its separate link to watch on YouTube.

Clicking the load button is your consent to connect to Google/YouTube for that player. The player uses youtube-nocookie.com (YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode), which is not a guarantee of no data processing. Google receives your IP address, browser/request information, and this site's origin as a referrer. The player may use cookies or browser storage for playback and measurement; Google's own processing and retention are described in Google's Privacy Policy.

Your choice is not stored: each new page load starts with the player disabled. Use Unload YouTube video to withdraw your choice and remove the player. This stops further requests from that player, but does not undo data already sent or clear storage YouTube may have created. You can manage that storage through your browser's site-data settings.

External services and international processing

Other external services, including GitHub and LinkedIn, are linked rather than embedded. Following a link takes you to a service with its own privacy practices. External links opened in a new tab are configured not to send the referring page.

The pages also advertise Webmention.io and IndieAuth endpoints in their metadata. These are not automatically requested by the site's page code. If you use those services, they receive the information needed for the operation you request, such as submitted URLs for a webmention or authentication information.

Hosting, email, and optional video providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Their linked privacy notices describe their processing locations and applicable transfer safeguards, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Hosting-log retention is determined by the hosting provider, not by a browser preference on this site.

Your rights

Where applicable under the GDPR, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise rights concerning data handled by the site operator, email the address above. For data a provider handles independently, its privacy notice explains how to contact it.

You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, including the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali. The site does not use automated decision-making or profiling of visitors.
